FILM POSSIBLE ANNOUNCES THE FIRST EDITION OF A FILMMAKING MENTORSHIP SERIES PROGRAMME.
Film Possible is proud to announce the first edition of a Filmmaking Mentorship Series. FILMMAKING MENTORSHIP SERIES is a filmmaking training programme for industry professionals, led and conducted by African and International Industry experts and film mentors. The Series will cover all different areas of filmmaking: from screenwriting to distribution. The aim of these classes is to provide East African filmmakers with industry-standard skills and knowledge, which will enable them to tell and share their stories more effectively. At the end of the mentorship series, the trained creatives will be tasked with producing six short films, which have been developed through the workshops. These films will be commissioned by Film Possible and Awali TV and showcased on the Matata Film Stage and Awali TV platforms, two screening and distribution platforms that are exploring innovative ways of creating self-sustainable screening and distribution strategies in East Africa.
The classes are both theoretical and practical, and, by the end of 2022, up to 100 participants will have had the opportunity to learn and put their skills into practice on real film sets. Each month, for 10 months, Film Possible will run a five-day workshop for 10 participants specializing in a different area of filmmaking. The participants will have access to their mentors throughout the year. The series will begin in October with two pilot classes: screenwriting and directing. These will be followed by mentorship classes every month in producing; cinematography; acting; production design; sound; editing/post-production; music for film; as well as marketing and distribution.
“Our ambition is to work with people already engaged in the industry, impacting local film production more widely through providing a wider range of professionals with industry-standard skills and knowledge,” says Musoke Ali, the founder of Film Possible.
The programme will be produced by Film Possible in association with its partners. The Film Possible team and associates, who all have prior experience in producing and leading workshop and mentorship programmes, will oversee the development, implementation, and management of the entire programme. Film Possible is engaging different stakeholders and continues to look for partners to continue the successful execution of this project.
